1770 and Agnes Water

We were really looking forward to a few days at 1770, which is a tiny place named after the landing of James Cook in 1770. It is a lovely area with a huge national park that runs all the way up to Bustard Head, and which you can imagine is just as it was when the Endeavour sailed into the bay.

Sunset on the beach a few metres from our van site

A highlight of our stay was a day trip in a giant pink amphibious vehicle  (the LARC) along the beach, across the creeks and all the way to Bustard Head lighthouse.

You may have gathered by now that I will generally not pass up the opportunity to go up a lighthouse, or take photos of lighthouses.

View from the top, note the LARC in distance

Included in the trip was the option to sandboard down a dune and into a creek.  Garry and I chickened out, but Ben thought it was great!

Ben, halfway down

And out across the water!

We walked up to the 1770 Headland, through a gully that was filled with butterflies.  It is a gorgeous coastline.

We also spent a day on the beach at Agnes Water, which is the slightly larger township just a bit further down the coast.

A very pleasant few days.
